In January 2024, Trezor, a leading hardware cryptocurrency wallet provider, experienced a significant security breach impacting up to 66,000 users. The breach occurred due to unauthorized access to a third-party support ticketing system, potentially exposing users' names, usernames, and email addresses. However, Trezor confirmed that no sensitive financial data or private keys were compromised.
The incident raised concerns about phishing attacks targeting affected users. Attackers sent deceptive emails impersonating Trezor support, attempting to trick users into revealing their recovery seed phrases. Trezor acted swiftly by notifying affected users and emphasizing that they would never request such sensitive information via email.
The company promptly terminated unauthorized access and continues to monitor the situation. Trezor reiterated the importance of never sharing recovery seed phrases and maintaining vigilance against phishing attempts.
